"This agreement is an important part of our contingency planning for disaster recovery and business continuity in the event of a major system failure," said Smith. "We must ensure that our client data is protected with the best available technology."

In addition, new federal guidelines under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountancy Act (HIPAA) require organizations like CAI, that maintain healthcare information on individuals, to provide regular data back-ups, set up critical facilities for continuing operations and establish disaster recovery procedures to remain in legal compliance.

"With computer system emergencies, such as power outages, equipment failures and storms, problems can occur at any time," said Bob Wade, (TITLE), SunGard Recovery Systems. "Together with concerns about terrorism and the need to comply with new federal laws on medical information security, companies like Coalition America are taking prudent steps to protect their computer generated information."

SunGard Recovery Systems has more than two decades of experience in providing business continuity services. "During a test of the CAI’s emergency procedures, SunGard helped us recover our complete data system in less than ten hours," Smith said. "Our hot site contract with SunGard addresses our needs for state-of-the-art data security and provides an industry acceptable answer to the HIPAA requirements."
